The Mayor's Medal of Honor ceremony on Tuesday, April 20, was a wonderful event that recognized the incredible work that was done by individuals and organizations throughout Chicago. Some of the accomplishments included transforming a hospital to entirely serve COVID-19 patients, distributing 93 million pounds of food during the first four months of the pandemic, providing $400 million of aid to small businesses and helping 100K public school students gain internet access so that they could learn online.

While our work didn't have this scale, we provided these same supports for the Chinatown community: health (providing COVID vaccinations), food (in our partnership with Chinese Christian Union Church and other community groups), financial support (assisting laid off workers with their unemployment claims) and education (tutoring children and youth during this year of remote learning and shifting ESL classes online).

While Kenneth Chow, our Board President, and I represented Pui Tak Center at the ceremony, this recognition belongs to everyone involved with Pui Tak Center — our wonderful staff, dedicated volunteers, generous donors and faithful prayer supporters.

While the public's attention on Pui Tak Center will fade, all of us at Pui Tak Center will continue to live out Matthew 5:16 in Chinatown:

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

If you didn't get a chance to watch the livestream, you can watch Mayor Lightfoot recognize Pui Tak Center:
