Citizenship Classes

Citizenship Classes

Name one right or freedom guaranteed by the first amendment. In what year was the constitution written? What kind of government does the United States have? Who wrote the “Star Spangled Banner”?

If you were able to answer these questions along with 96 other U.S. civics questions, congratulations because you would probably pass the oral exam to become a naturalized citizen.

If you couldn’t answer these questions, you are like most of the students in our citizenship classes. Most of those attending our citizenship class have been lawful permanent residents for five years and in the process of applying to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. Students need to be at a high beginner ESL level and pass the oral screener. If they successfully pass the oral interview and exam, they come back to class and celebrate with their classmates.

The textbook used in the class was developed by our Citizenship instructor.
